Varicose veins are veins that have become enlarged due in many cases to activities in which a person has to stand for long periods of time. There is also a hereditary factor that may cause them. Varicose veins occur when the small valves inside the veins stop working properly.

These vein problems are very common and they can occur in both women and men; although women and people with more than 20 years of age are more affected.
