Doctor Barreto was born in Bogota, Colombia in 1962. He graduated as a surgeon in 1986 and specialized in Otolaryngology at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia in 1991. He was a professor at this university until 1996 and during this time he also worked at the San Juan de Dios Hospital and the Hospital de la Misericordia in Bogota. After his graduation as an ENT specialist he initiated his private practice with emphasis in rhinology and facial plastic surgery.

He was involved in the board of directors of the Colombian Association of Otolaryngology and surgery of head and neck (ACORL) between 1992 and 2000. He was president of this association from 1998 until 2000.

Since the year 2000, he has combined his practice as an ENT specialist with management of the UNIDAD QUIRURGICA DE LOS ALPES (UQLA) where he currently practices. He was the promoter of NATURAL BELLE. He obtained a title as Specialist in Administration of Service Institutions at the Universidad de La Sabana in Bogota, Colombia.
He is an active member of the Colombian Society of Facial Plastic Surgery and Rhinology and the International Federation of Facial Plastic Surgery Societies -. IFFPSS.
After his graduation as an ENT specialist he has operated more thatn 2650 patients, mostly aesthetical surgeries and nose functioning surgeries.
