Cosmetic use of Botox uses injection treatments that promote a more fresh and youthful appearance of the skin.
Botox is the purified form of the botulinum toxin type A. Although this toxin is the same one that causes botulism (an infection that causes muscular paralysis and even death), its cosmetic use is safe as it is applied in small quantities.

The use of Botox is ideal to treat face wrinkles and frown lines. The most common areas to be treated with Botox injections include the region between the eyebrows, the neck wrinkles and around the mouth. Botox relaxes muscles blocking nerve impulses and preventing muscular contractions which cause wrinkles. Approximately 2 to 8 days after the botox injections lines and wrinkles will disappear. Botox will only affect treated areas and other muscles that cause facial expressions will not be affected. 

Botox effects usually last from 3 to 6 months. After this time additional treatment is needed to keep the result. Effects last more after several treatments.

The Botox therapy is safe when it is done by qualified surgeons. The secondary effects are moderate and temporal. Some pain and swelling on the treated area may be experienced and in few cases some headache.
