Sagging breasts mean that mammary tissue has been lost as well as the breast firmness which causes the nipples to point downward. Generally women that have breast fed more than two children are the ones who have a breast lift, also know as a mastopexy.

It is recommended that by the time of the breast lift surgery, the breasts of the patient are totally developed. Having children after a mastopexy is not a problem because milk channels, the areola and the nipples are not affected by the surgery.

The first step of the surgery is to administer anesthesia. This surgery can be performed under general anesthesia or intravenous sedation and it can last from two to four hours.

The second step in a breast lift surgery is the incisions. The number and length of incisions are based on the degree of sagging of the breasts. .

After performing the incisions the surgeon proceeds to reshape your breasts. This is the third step of the breast lift surgery. In this step the breast lift surgeon removes excess skin and repositions the areola and the nipple to a natural and more youthful height. At the same time, the breast tissue is lifted and reshaped which will improve the firmness and contour of your breasts.

The last step of the surgery is to close the incisions. After your breasts have been reshaped and excess skin has been removed, the remaining skin is tightened and the incisions are closed. .

Most of the times incision lines are concealed in the natural breast contours, however some times these incision lines are visible on the breast surface. Incision lines are permanent but most of them fade significantly over time.

One of the most important benefits of a mastopexy is that results are visible immediately and long lasting. Recovery process may be a little painful due to the skin removal. Breasts will get swollen and will hurt. Your surgeon will recommend you to use bandages and a surgical bra for several days.

During the first days after the surgery you should be resting. Approximately three days after de surgery you can start walking and doing activities that do not require a lot of effort. Any activity that requires physical effort is forbidden during the first three weeks after the breast lift surgery. You will be able to get back to work after at least one week after the surgery.

Although surgery results are visible immediately you should never remove the bandages to se these results. The bandage will be removed few days later in a post-operative control. Once the bandages have been removed you should wear a surgical bra for about twenty-one days.

It is important that you follow these instructions to avoid changing the results of the surgery. Although after the first twenty-one days you could not even use a bra it is not recommended. It is better if you use some kind of support during day or night while you sleep.
